I’m a routine gal; I feel best when I have a rhythm to my days. And although everyone is created uniquely by the Lord, I believe most—if not all—can benefit from some sort of a routine.
As I’ve played with different approaches, I’ve found having a handful of healthy habits as anchors throughout the day helps keep me on track. They’re my non-negotiables. Fewer decisions. Better adherence. Healthier life—body, soul and Spirit.
Here are a few anchors that add both structure and nourishment to my days, no matter what’s on the agenda.
Wake up with Jesus | Every morning you’ll find me, coffee in hand, spending time with the Lord. It’s the most important part of my day and the way I align my heart with His. Some days I’m tired and honestly, I don’t feel like it. But getting into the Word—even for a few minutes—is a way I give of my first to Him. And it’s lovely how the Lord will often “woo” me, drawing me in on the days when I least expect to hear from Him. Need an easy onramp to morning quiet time? This devotional is a great way to get started!
Get sweaty | If I don’t break a sweat before I shower, it doesn’t get done. That’s why morning workouts work for me. Whether it’s taking a class at the gym or doing a combo of biking + lifting at home, it brings my body into motion, creating momentum for the rest of the day.
“Mini prep” | Even though I dedicate a few hours each week to meal prepping, each day requires a “mini prep” for our lunches, fresh produce items and my daily garbage salad (see below). As such, I carve out 15-30 minutes to efficiently do this in one little swoop. This makes healthy foods the easy foods to grab!
Enjoy a garbage salad | Every night, I have a BIG salad as a bedtime snack. What’s thrown in varies according to season and what I happen to have on hand (thus, the name “garbage” salad). Last night’s salad, for example, had lots of organic mixed greens, crumbled goat cheese, artichoke hearts, fresh blackberries and a drizzle of homemade dressing. It’s fun to munch (while hubs enjoys a Jonny Pop) and it doubles as my “insurance” to ensure I’m getting enough real food nutrition every day.
Although I have more (e.g. making the bed, praying with my husband, etc.), this is a short list of anchors that help me automate wellness. Now it’s your turn—what are your anchors? Email enlightennutritioncoaching@gmail.com to share! I’d love to hear from you!
